I’ll be experimenting with an ultrasonic MEMS microphone for sound activated recording this year. Check back later in the year for updates.

Bat Simulator
Details about making a bat simulator have been added. This project is for an Arduino based device that emits ultrasonic test pulses that can be to used check the functioning of a bat detector.
Sound Activated Recording
I’m experimenting with sound activated recording using SoX….no hours of silence in the recorded files – just bat calls 🙂
Here’s a photo of my waterproof microphone – an electret poking out of the bottom of a small funnel which is wrapped in cling film, and sealed using self-amalgamating tape. The cling film doesn’t seem to make any noticeable difference to the recordings.
Further details can be found on the Sound Activated Recording page.
